Alright, I need to have a chat with the teenagers that follow me, specifically regarding lying about your age and nsfw content. This isn’t directed at anyone, but I think it’s a convo that needs to be had in general.

I was a teenager once. I get it. Everyone lies about their age online. Maybe not to other people, but I’m sure every minor has clicked a ‘yeah, sure, I’m 18+” button at some point in their lives. I’m not here to shame you for that.

What I am here to say is it is vital that teenagers understand the difference between engaging in sexual content independently (ie, entering a fake birthday to access 18+ content), and lying about your age to engage in sexual activities with others online (joining discord servers/using nsfw channels intended for adults only/lying about your age to talk to nsfw content creators/commissioning nsfw art/etc).

Lying about your age to a website so you can look at porn is one thing. It’s an entirely independent experience, where the only consent that really matters is yours. Nobody has any power over you in this situation, and there’s about no chance of legal consequences.

However, lying about your age to other human beings is extremely different. If you’re engaging in nsfw roleplay with a friend about the same age as you, talking about sex with other teenagers, sharing nsfw fics among friends, that’s one thing. But do not lie about your age to engage in sexual activities/discussions. Not only is something that could have actual legal ramifications, and very serious ones depending on what’ going on, but it’s a violation of the other people’s consent. The moment other real people are involved, you need to be respectful of their boundaries & what is and isn’t appropriate for you to be engaging with. If they say no minors, I don’t care if you’re 17.5, you stay out until you are 18 years old.

Examples of situations where it is never okay to lie or mislead anyone about your age online include:

    • Joining/accessing nsfw channels or servers on discord.
      • Yes, I know it’s very easy to just click that little red button on discord that lets you access the channel you’re so curious about. It looks just like the one you see on adult websites that you click without thinking.
      • Don’t do it.
      • If channels are 18+ then you stay out of them. There are other real life human beings involved who did not give consent to have a minor in an adult orientated space.
    • Engaging with nsfw creators/content directly
      • ie, commissioning nsfw artwork, following or talking to nsfw creators who’ve asked for no interactions from minors/flagged their accounts as 18+ only, subscribing to nsfw creators on patron, nsfw roleplay, etc.
    • Joining/engaging with adult only communities, like Fetlife or cam sites.
    • Engaging in romantic and/or sexual online relationships
    • Any time you are talking with one or more other real human beings, particularly any adults, in a sexual context.

I know that adult websites have basically trained teenagers to just say they’re 18 and move on, but it is vital that teenagers understand that it is never okay to lie about your age when directly engaging in any kind of sexual activity. Knowing people’s age is a vital part of consent, and if an adult is found to have been engaging in sexual activity with a minor, they could face life long legal consequences. Not only that, but a basic facet of consent is clear, honest communication. If you are lying to a partner, then you do not have consent. Lying about your age is a huge violation of consent.

That’s not to say you can never mention sex around adults online. There are times and places where you may be asking for advice, or even just making jokes about sex or whatever. That’s all well and good, so long as everyone is on the same page. It’s on adults to make sure that we are behaving appropriately around minors online, and make sure that we’re setting boundaries in those relationships. But it’s on minors to communicate that they are minors, and respect those boundaries that are set.

    So, tl;dr,

Lying about your age to access a porn site is fine. Lying about your age to engage in sexual situations/adult-only spaces where other real human beings are involved is not.

  2. It has come to my attention that I am a dumbass and apparently Heaven’s Gate was a real cult that existed before I was born.

I apologize if I offended anyone and please know I just had no idea.

For future reference, my fictional cult shall now be renamed The Crimson Children of the Moon.

As for the current status of this RP blog, I’m not really sure what’s going on myself. I definitely want to return to it one day but truth be told, I’m not sure there’s that many people who’d tolerate me since I reply incredibly slow.

Anyway that’s all I have to say so signing off for now!

non-autistic authors write autistic characters all the time. they just don’t realize it. they’d rather not admit it most of the time, either.

the thing is, non-autistic people have met autistic people more than enough times. however, due to their stereotypes about autism, they often can’t identify it as autism. they see something is up, but they can’t put their finger on just what is up.

so they see people like us and they know the ‘archetype’ which is autistic people. they write us all the time: airheaded professors, awkward nerds, pent up geniuses, etc.

when autistic people point out how strikingly obvious it is that this character is autistic, they usually deny it, or at best, they say the character is ‘if anything, extremely high functioning’, which is more of a kick in the gut than a confirmation. we hardly get those, either.

so, here’s the thing: there are some characters that are very obviously autistic to actual autistic people. pearl from steven universe and papyrus from undertale are two of the most agreed upon examples that i’ve seen. nearly ever autistic fan of steven universe i met says, “yeah, she’s autistic”, and the same goes for papyrus.

when we, as a community, bring this up, however, we are shot down. “oh, he’s not autistic.” i once was told that - ironic as it was - my headcanoning papyrus as autistic offended autistic people or hurt autistic people. but i’m autistic and they weren’t.

two autistic people were both agreeing - damn, this character is blatantly autistic - but non-autistic people felt the need to but in and say how horrible it was to “project” onto characters with such a horrible thing.

listen, if you aren’t autistic and you’re reading this -

if an autistic person says a character is autistic, can you just shut up about it?

because if you’ve watched any amount of tv, read any amount of books, whatever - if you’ve consumed stories, there are tons of autistic characters in them.

just because neither you nor the media’s creators knows shit about autism doesn’t mean that the character can’t be autistic.

either way, it’s none of your business.

we have little to none confirmed representation that isn’t terrible and inconsiderately offensively written.

find something better to do with your time.

NT Author: *Writes lovingly nuanced character who is quirky, shy, physically sensitive, socially awkward, clumsy, brilliant at a few special topics and has the capacity to grow and learn friendship and love in a nontraditional way*

NT Author: They can’t possibly be autistic!

NT Author: I’m gonna write an autistic character!

NT Author: “Doesn’t talk, rocks back and forth, loves trains”

Gonna say this as an author:

It is 100% okay to use the phrase “well, they are now.”

If a ton of people approach you with a character you didn’t realize you coded autistic, and they’re like “fuck yeah, autistic character!”

You can 100% say “I didn’t even realize that’s what I was doing, but you know what? Sure. With the number of people who see it, I’m not gonna say no. They’re autistic now.”

Nobody worth having around is going to be offended by that.

i’m not seeing a post about this in the rp community so i’m making one with the hopes that this will circulate in enough time to get to everyone.

YOU HAVE 30 DAYS TO OPT OUT OF DISCORD’S NEW CLAUSE.

the clause basically states that you are unable to sue discord for for something like them selling or leaking your information. this doesn’t mean that they intend on selling or leaking your information, but IF something like that were to happen, this terms of service update will prevent you from suing them if you don’t opt out of it.

this is a direct quote from their post about it, which you can find here ( someone on reddit took it from their API server ).

Discord has changed their Terms of Service!

Unfortunately, this change comes with a revocation of your legal rights. Discord has revoked your right to sue (you must go through an arbitrator) and to congregate as a class action lawsuit.

Luckily, there is an opt-out for the clause, in which you must email arbitration-opt-out@discord.com, but you must do it within 30 days or you can no longer opt-out.

YOU CANNOT DELETE OR DEACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT TO OPT-OUT OF THE ARBITRATION CLAUSE

You can see the added clauses for yourself here: https://gist.github.com/Rapptz/c93697c9d59ec2f0d8071b7d0e907632

so basically, email arbitration-opt-out@discord.com WITH THE EMAIL ASSOCIATED WITH YOUR DISCORD ACCOUNT within the next 30 days. if you don’t, you will not be able to sue discord should an information leak happen. an information leak could include your real name, payment info, and other account details.

i want to make it clear that THIS DOES NOT MEAN DISCORD IS ACTIVELY STEALING OR LEAKING YOUR INFO. they’re just letting us know that in the event of an information leakage, you will not be able to sue them unless you opt out of this within the next 30 days.

PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD TO THE RP COMMUNITY. i know most, if not all of us, use discord to chat with one another, and if something were to happen, i would hate for us to be shit out of luck because no one knew about this.

Some more info from the discord blog post:

    • You will not be penalized in any way for opting out of arbitration.
    • The arbitration clause is exclusive to the United States. Individuals outside the United States are exempt from the arbitration clause and do not need to opt out. Obviously, I imagine you can if you want to, but if you’re like me and have anxiety over sending an email, it is not something you need to do IF you are not living in the United States.
    • Discord has acknowledged that they did not provide much forewarning and, as such, have extended their original deadline to opt out to 90 days. For those more math-inclined than I am, Discord’s updated blog post is dated Oct 18.
    • Your email does not need any specific template or form. The blog post says that all it requires is that you state you wish to opt out and that the request come from the email associated with your account.

The blog post also has some useful resources at the bottom of the page, detailing what arbitration is, as well as the pros and cons of arbitration.
